Progress report. Got round to getting the subframe and diff carrier bushes out. I was really dreading this thought it would be a nightmare. However I am glad to say I was wrong they were a piece of piss. They have split shells on so a whack with a cold chisel to break the rust and just levered them out with a couple of pry-bars. Tidy.
Then started on painting the subframe and suspension arms. One coat of hamerite zinc primer. Then a coat of hamerite gloss black smooth finish. In all fairness the finish is shit runs all over the place. Still I'm not building a show car so as long as it stops the rust I'm happy. Have got myself some Waxoil with the pressure sprayer to get inside all the sills chassis rails and any bit I can't reach with a brush. Also ended up painting the anti roll bars the paint whiteline use isn't the best all flaky and falling off. Would probably have done it anyway so as to keep the monochrome colour scheme going. (although I think thats a contradition of terms) Will get the camera out when the bushes are all in.

All the bushes are in exept the outer rear arm bushes have spoke to the bloke and he says he's going to send me some new sleeves to fit the bolts properly. The problem as I saw it was that the inside diameter of the sleeve was designed for an m13 bolt where my car has m12's can't see toyota making that many changes I know mine is the one before the widearch model but he seems adamant that this is the first time he's come across the problem. M13 seems a bit odd for the japs seen as they never realy used imperial sizes.
Have got busy with the waxoil (nasty shit) think I could have saved some money and just emptied my grill pan into a bucket and used that.
Also got busy with the angle grinder and the trusty wire wheel cleaning off the inner arch and underside of the car ready for the stonechip.
Am on the lookout for a 240v 50l compressor anyone have any recomendations and idea of what i should be paying for one?

Right then not posted for a while but have been busy. Cleaned off the bottom of the car ready for the stonechip. Don't wanna put that on till I know all the welding is done need to sort out the seat possitioning so i can weld in the bars to hold the bugger. Cut the rusty shit at the back of the cills off and fabbed up some replacements hopefully gonna get em welded tommorrow.
Great minds an all, Have got me a set of starion rims had a 420mile round trip to get the fuckers. Am unsure whether to get converters or to weld up the holes and get em re-drilled to 4 stud. Gonna take a strut down to see what kind of clearance I need on the front callipers.

Cheers dude very informative. I guess what youre sayin is make sure the petrol tank is well protected as I the 'syonide' capsules I purchased will just be paracetamol painted red or something hence won't do much to ease the pain of being burned alive.

Anyhoo progress report. took a front strut down to the workshop today to see if the starion wheels will go straight on over the brakes. I was considering gobbing (welding, technical term) up 4 of the holes and getting them re-drilled to 4 stud-cost £0. So I knocked out 3 of the studs from the front hubs and used the 1 stud to locate the wheel lay the wheel face down on the floor and offered the front strut into it. The 8j would need about 15mm spacers the 7j need something like 30mm spacers. looks like my best bet is to get some 4 to 5 stud converters-cost £220.........bollocks.

I will have to get on the case with the camera and vernier. Don't know if its gonna be worth it though as rear 5 stud hubs for these are like rocking horse shit. Saw a pair on ebay.com years ago and they went for like $500. Not to mention that they are damn near imposible to remove from the lower arm. As for the front I'd still need some pretty big spacers to get over the brakes. If you can get those callipers to work behind the hub I think that'd be the way to go but I think it would be a nightmare. To get past them would require 0 offset but none deepdish (gay)
What are your oppinions in the strength of converters as the car is gonna go to some tracks, Which compared to drifting is gonna be some pretty high load figures.

Oh yeah would be up for the drift day. Don't worry with my skills you won't want to be twinning it up. I don't realy care if I smash this one (with the excception of the tailgate) but yours is a bit too mint to be in a double crashu.

/\ I have seen that link for the 5 stud, I'm sticking with the 4 stud but was interested to see what people figured out. Starion hubs etc and old crown bits that you might find if you live in some ass backwards part of australia that has loads of breakers yards.
Matt, as for your fuel tank I would sink it into the floor with tabs either side then have a cover sheet bolted over the top of it. If you make the tank yourself you could use the stock filler location (I have had the funny looks at the service station when opening the rear hatch and sticking the filler nozzle in there with race tanked cars) or have an aerocap bolted through one of the side windows* (*some polycarb may be required haha) You might have to be imaginative with the fuel sender etc, might need a 'power bulge' in the fuel tank cover and a gromit for wires/pipes etc. And don't forget the breather that should run lower than the tank so it doesn't piss in the event of an unexpected showing of the underside of the car (yep a rollover) Its gonna take some planning, I'll knock up some sketches for you as ideas when I have refreshed my memory of the standard fuel pump sender setup (although I think 83 and earlier models may have had an external pump as opposed to the later in tank?)
Speaking of which I'll have to shoot over and have a look soon, and pick up a fuel tank and related bits. I have been meaning to for the last couple of weekends but work (bastard mondeo injectors) and welding up a 309GTi (last of the cool french cars) for a mate have got in the way!

Oh dear niel let me say that the sorn road is a slippery path indeed I'm on number 4.
Cas: was gonna sink the tank in to the floor but wanna get it as close to the raer axle line as possible so gonna get the underside painted (not the boot before you start) and get the diff back on so I can see how much room I've got to play with. Do wanna put a filler cap in the rear quater window. Gonna get one off motorbike as it will have the lock and everything i need.
Turns out the chap on ebay I got the polybushes off hasn't sorted out new sleeves so is cunt. I've given him like 2 months he says he's sent them but I haven't recieved anything now my opportunity to threaten him with feedback has passed he's just ignoring me. once gain CUNT

Before you know it neil your car will be a rolling shell with no engine, gearbox, diff, interior or panels, in fact nothing but a load of good intentions and a spare room full of nice parts that just require the last bit of non existent money to be spent to aid getting them on the car. Or perhaps thats just me...
Matt, I may have to use the tank off the 'donor' car if thats ok, I can't remember if the tanks are the same for the external pump type. The pickup for the external pump is easy enough on a custom tank, same deal as the old injected fords, tube coming off the side of the tank somewhere at the lowest point (a sink/well area is a good idea for this with some baffles round it, as well as some fuel tank foam)
Who was it you got them from off ebay? I was thinking of getting bushes via aaron@rabidchimp or going straigh to powerflex, (neil you may want to look at that there may be some trade discount or distribution thing to sell them via this site) so I can avoid teh ebay cuntage even if it means paying a bit more.

Gutted to hear about the bushes mate, I ordered mine, but he never processed the order so i cancelled it. And i only sorned the car for a week in the end! missus lent me the tax money (good girl) so supra will live another year. @ cas. I tried to get a dicsount thing running with energy suspension in the u.s. but i need more members to make it viable. Heres a link to the super pro catalogue, they stock bushes for nearly every car and do subframe bushes too. driftoy.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=tech&action=display&thread=78&page=1

No, thats me aswell.
Got the bushes off a pwolestyn or something, from poland. Its not the end of the world will have to either get bigger bolts or wrap em in a coke can (dissimilar metals)
Have only got the tank with the external pump off the car but the access plate all looks the same as the later models so as long as you've got your pump I don't see why it wouldn'e go in. Also have the external pump and bracketry so worst case you could bodge something up.
Niel: Glad to hear the supra lives on. Am gonna have to save some pennies for a drift day I think theres one early july like the 6th. May be a bit close to my holiday though.
