Hi all,
Neil sent me a pm on dw after he saw a thread I put up asking for ma61 parts. I have bought a auto ma61 and need a ton of stuff but since that thread I have bought another one but manuel. So hopefully I can make 1 good car from the pair of them lol.
I will stick a post up in a bit with pics of the 2.
Cheers all, Spence

Here it is. Now has 12 months mot and 6 months rent. The other one i bought is buggered underneath but has good panels. so will get them all painted asap and fitted to the car.

Welcome to Driftoy Spence, and thanks for showing your support by joining. I hope you find it useful, and any questions, we should be able to answer them for you. Fair play for buying two of them as well! Wish i had the space as i'd buy as many as possible. Auto diffs are a tiny bit shorter ratio, and usually not as worn as the manuals, so wouldn't bother swapping it over when you do the manual conversion mate. Still, you got a raft of parts now, and if your planning to drive the doors off it ... you'll need more doors anyhow. looking forward to seeing your project progress, they're nigh on bomb proof so long as you give them a bit of love every now and then

Cheers Neil! Have lots of plans but they are all fixing plans for the moment. Mine had been sat for 3 years but is a 1 owner car from new LOL. Done a service on it and and pumped the tyres up and sent it on for MOT. Failed on a blocked washer jet and a small bit of rust in one of the arches. 20 mins later i have a MOT. Went and taxed it for a mighty £121 and im now driving it about. Drives a bit weird, need disks, tracking and tyres then i think it will be reasonable. At the mo if you hit the brakes it send you into a hedge. I will be selling some of the bits off the other one once i have stripped it and kept all the bits i want. Will put up a project thread at some point.

Don't know yet, haven't made my mind up. Probably got to a few drift days and stuff for a laugh.
Mine doesn't seem to have a LSD so will have to source one.

it should man, open diff wasn't an option on them! The wheels spin in opposite directions when the cars off the floor as they have 2 planetary gears in the diff, so when it's not locking it seems to be a open diff. It will have a Lsd sticker on the right side of the casing/ backplate. If it's really worn, then will behave like an open diff due to exceeding the travel needed to push ramps apart & in turn the plates against the backface of the gears to lock the rear up.

We span one wheel when of the ground and the other stayed still and when you try to slide it only one wheel spins.

do the static burnout test,4000rpm > straight off the clutch and onto the brakes. Seems weird, but maybe someones swapped it over from a Lotus Eclat or something? Have the back plate off and turn the diff until you can see the diff body. if it looks like this you have an lsd> Abeit, a shit one!

Hi Spence and welcome to the fray. Nice looking motor you've got there, they do look good in white and had considered respraying mine that colour instead of the lovely burgundy colour it was when I got it. Bit confused.com on the old diff situation Neil, had mine up in the air an spun one of the wheels and the other spun in the same direction for a while and then stopped, does that mean my diff is buggered? ?

Cheers mate. Mine needs a respray in white also lol.
I'm not 100% on LSD but I think the wheel should spin opposite way.

lol, diff's baffle the hell out of me, same as automatic gearboxes (and women), thankfully mine is a manual but suffering from a clunking at the back end. Originally thought it was a driveshaft UJ but bought a couple of spares, tried em and it made it no better

ahh, right.. Soz, i didnt make it too clear earlier ....what you have to do is stick it in gear, when it's jacked off the floor, then rotate the wheels. the diff needs the resistance of the crown wheel locked up against the rest of the drivetrain, then both wheels should spin in opposite directions Until you shock load one of the wheels( whilst having the opposite wheel locked stationary) That locks the diff up, but it takes quite a bit of Torque to get them both spinning the same way. The sprung, top plate in the upper part of the diff needs to twist against the static lower plate, that in turn pushes the top ramp against the lower ramp and concequently pushes the Brass thrust washers up ^ hard against the gears. The Gears then press against the + shape clutch plates, and that locks the wheels together. The angle of the ramp dictates for every mm the top plate moves against the bottom plate Horizontally, there will be a relative distance traveled vertically.. A high ramp angle like 60 degrees would lock the diff really quickly as the plates are pushing apart say for example 4mm vertically for every 2mm moved horizontally. Just think of a right angled triangle and that triganometery stuff you forgot at school... oolong.co.uk/trig.htm

Will it work in drive? Maybe my diff is buggered?
